The Hallite R16 is a single-acting, o-ring energized, low-friction rod seal proven to be ideal in a variety of applications. The seal is made with our high-quality Armorlene® products combined with an elastomer energizer for superior performance. High performance Armorlene® materials, like HLX, provide outstanding wear and extrusion-resistance properties as well as large range of temperature and media compatibility.

Unlike other designs, the R16 can be used in tandem installations to provide optimum sealing in high-speed applications. The R16 is also commonly used as a pressure buffer seal protecting the primary rod seal from high-frequency pressure spikes that might be found in a system. This design also fits standard ISO 7425-2 grooves and is offered in a wide range of metric and inch options.

This seal is typically made out of our high-quality Hythane® materials combined with an elastomer energizer design optimized for superior performance.

The Hallite 716SPN can be used as a single rod seal or incorporated into a rod sealing system as the secondary seal. The 716SPN is paired with an R16 made from an Armorlene® PTFE material which becomes the primary seal in the system (see drawing above) with the 716SPN as the secondary seal in the system. This tandem arrangement is ideal for long- stroke and high-speed applications, providing optimum sealing performance.

The Hallite 673 is an asymmetric, single lip U-ring rod seal designed to provide a dry sealing solution in light and medium-duty applications. The seal can be considered for use in heavy-duty applications when used with a suitable full depth back-up ring. The seal profile has been developed to minimise friction and improve back pumping capability when used with a double-lipped wiper such as Hallite 839N, 844, and 864.

The standard material for the the Hallite 673 is Hythane® 591 which we recommend for heavier duty and earth-moving applications. As alternative, the seal is available in Hythane® 181 for easy installation and excellent low temperature performance.

The Hallite 663 is an asymmetric, single lip U-ring rod seal designed to provide a dry sealing solution in light and medium-duty applications and manufactured in Hythane® 181, Hallite’s high-performance polyurethane, for easy installation and excellent low temperature performance.

The seal is a single lip modification of the well-established Hallite 605 profile and is ideal for applications that require a double-lipped wiper, such as the Hallite 839, Hallite 844, Hallite 846, or Hallite 864. The Hallite 663 is also offered in other high quality Hythane® materials to best fit the needs of the application.

The secondary sealing lip located behind the primary sealing lip improves stability of the seal in the gland. The Hallite 658 is designed to replace an O-ring and one backup sealing arrangement and offer a much higher level of sealing performance and durability without having to change the seal groove.

The Hallite 658 is molded in Hythane® 181, Hallite’s high-performance polyurethane, for easy installation and excellent low temperature performance. The Hallite 658 is also offered in other high quality Hythane® materials to match the needs of the application.

The Hallite 652 is a rod seal designed designed to provide a dry sealing solution specifically for heavy-duty longwall mining applications using water-based fluids. The design is also suitable for standard hydraulic oil applications.

The seal is manufactured in a polyurethane shell energised by a high quality O-ring, or in some cases a profiled NBR energiser as used in the Hallite 621 twin lip rod seal. The Hallite 652 also incorporates an acetal anti-extrusion ring to withstand side loads and extreme pressure peaks even with the extrusion gaps, which are the result of using remote plastic bearing strips like the Hallite 506 or 708.

The secondary sealing lip located behind the primary sealing lip improves stability of the seal in the gland. The unique profile of the NBR energizer ensures the precision trimmed primary sealing lips maintain contact under low or no pressure situations while ensuring proper sealing at higher pressures.

This unique profile is also used in the Hallite 621 twin lip rod seal and its seal shell is molded in Hythane® 181, Hallite’s high-performance polyurethane, for easy installation and excellent low temperature performance. The Hallite 622 is also offered in other high quality Hythane® materials to match the needs of the application.

The Hallite 620 is a twin lip rod seal designed with precision trimmed sealing lips to provide a dry sealing solution in light and medium-duty application. The seal is manufactured in a polyurethane shell energized by a high quality O-ring. The sealing lips are trimmed at an angle to give optimal rod sealing performance.

Like the Hallite 621 rod seal, the Hallite 620 is designed to have an interference in the seal housing groove and a secondary lip. The secondary sealing lip located behind the primary sealing lip improves stability of the seal in the gland. At zero or low pressure, the O-ring helps to increase the sealing force preventing any bypass. Under most conditions as the pressure rises, the sealing force increases and the O-ring ensures complete lip actuation. Together these features result in improved life and sealing.

The Hallite 617 ‘Multilip’ seal is an asymmetric rod seal specifically developed to meet the requirements of ISO 6020-2 160 bar compact cylinders. The housing sizes confirm to those given for such cylinders in ISO 5597.

Manufactured in black version of Hallite’s high performance polyurethane Hythane® 181, the type 617 is an extremely flexible seal making installation very easy. The sealing lips are precision trimmed for consistent sealing performance.

Hallite’s 616 is a compact, asymmetric twin lip rod seal offering excellent dry rod sealing for light and medium-duty applications where space and friction are at a premium. The seal is manufactured in Hythane® 181, Hallite’s high-performance polyurethane, for easy installation and excellent low temperature performance.

Hallite recommends using our 616 rod seal as either a single seal or in combination with the Hallite R16 PTFE rod seal. The combination is recommended for use in applications where pressure peaks may occur, such as cylinders with cushioning.

The Hallite R16 PTFE rod seal is fitted into the groove on the pressure side of the gland and the Hallite 616 is used as the secondary seal to ensure minimal leakage. Consult your local Hallite office when considering this arrangement.
